The History Behind My Car
Well I am the third owner of this car. The car supposably has only 86,000 miles on it. The car was built as a Formula at Van Nuys CA. in mid November with a 4bbl 301, TH-350, GM T-tops, custom interior, AC, and a full gauge package. From what I know at some point in the early 90's the 4bbl 301 was swaped out for a 1970 400ci Ram air III engine with 1972 heads (the AC was disconected at this time I found the 40lb compressor in the trunk), and Hedman headers, mufflers and dual exhaust were added. Somewhere along the line the snowflake rims, rear bumper cover, spoiler, and all pullies dissapeared (I have all of that except the snowflake rims from the Esprit).

Extended History and Future Plans
Well originaly I bought a solid "looking" 79 Firebird Esprit with the intent to turn it into a Formula clone. But when I tore it down to the frame in the summer I found the car just wasn't worth it. So I scavanged the good parts off it the interior, and front clip and began searching around for a more "sound" car to restore. I ran into a 79 Formula 400 with T-tops the next spring, which was what I wanted to begin witt. So I start again this time with a little more knowledge of the car (after stripping the Esprit to the shell) and a lot more parts! Basically my plan right now is make a merger of old and new. Right now my Formula is mostly stock. But I plan to update the car and make it more modern as I go. Smooth out the body lines by shaving the door handels, 3rd gen power mirrors, molding the spoiler and ground effects into the body instead of how they are now which is kind of ontop and raised, 6" driving lights molded into the grills, headlight black outs, possably the rear tail lights receiving a smooth blackout look. The interior is going to get upgraded to digital gauges, modern looking switchs in the center console, lighted overhead console with a switch panel for things like driving lights, electric fan, line lock arming switch and so forth, the dash is going to have a more modern light / dimmer switch like found in the later 3rd gen firebirds, modern DIN stereo instead of the shaft style, possably a digital climate control setup like found in late 80's early 90's buicks and cadillacs, digital tempature gauges in the center console, and a B&M mega shifter with line lock T-handle. The 400ci engine is going to get treated to sequencial fuel injection, a more modern intake like a edelbrock performer RPM, electric fuel pump, modern tube headers with the O2 sensor and dual electric cooling fans like the types found on late model T/A's. The suspension is going to be updated with stiffer sway bars front and rear, weld in frame rail ties and rear frame rails to stiffen the frame up, new springs all around and possably a air bag system. The rear end is going to get stock disc brakes and 3.23 gears and a posi unit, I will probably switch out the TH-350 and build a beefed up BOP TH-400 or 700-R4.
